As an anthology of poetry and prose the interior design had to work equally well for pages full of text (prose) and pages with scant amounts of text (poetry). Electra was chosen for its legibility and understated, contemporary feel. For the titles, Meta provided a bit of contrast.
Rather than separate the texts into restricted sections, the editor-in-chief wanted a more fluid grouping for the texts and asked for a more subtle way to pace the breaks. Image fragments, used as visual pauses between groups of texts, were created from a single source image of a Sycamore tree and used at different magnifications. The intention was to quietly give the reader a sense moving around within the tree’s branches.
Since publication the feedback from readers has been appreciative,
citing the interior’s design’s clarity, warmth, and sense of space.
