Pen-to-Publication
Pen-to-Publication
Feb 24, 2012
Pen-to-Publication was the event that launched Transition, the new poetry collection from Jo Ann Hansen Rasch, published by Editions du Madrier, an independent publisher in Suisse-Romande. Held at BooksBooksBooks, Lausanne’s English language bookshop, the evening offered a celebratory aperitif followed by a panel discussion with the author, book designer (me), editor/publisher Dieter Bühler, and bookseller Matthew Wake.
Transition was crafted to be deliberately artisanal, even though its production utilized digital technology. It is a book meant to be held comfortably in the hand, with poetry that deserves to be lingered over and savored.
“I am blown away by how powerful this little book is. How important it is for us to put our work into a finished form! I will keep it close at hand and savor it bit by bit with my morning coffee.” MARY PARLANGE, WRITER/EDITOR/TRANSLATOR
Each of the three of us involved with different aspects of Transition shared our thoughts about books, in an effort to champion as actual, rather than virtual, objects.
My part of the conversation included a collection of eleven observations about the staying power of books made with pigment and paper.
The next blog entry is the the first of eleven.
